At the time of this writing, political observers are noting Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu's awkward position. As one insider put, Senator Landrieu appears to be caught between a rock and hard place with her Presidential endorsement. One insider told THE DEAD PELICAN that she is faced with the choice of turning her back on Senator Clinton- or possibly alienating herself from the residents of New Orleans that she needs to even have a chance of winning."

THE NAGIN RATIONALE

Nagin’s rationale for endorsing Obama is also a complicating factor. In a statement released by the Obama campaign Nagin said "I know first hand, we desperately need the leadership of someone committed to changing the system in Washington that can hold us back from moving forward."

And that man, in Nagin's opinion, is Obama.

Landrieu's lack of endorsement is now raising questions from the opposition.

The Louisiana G.O.P. had the following to say in a statement issued today:

“Today’s endorsement raises more questions than answers. In a press release announcing today’s endorsement, Nagin cited ‘Obama’s advocacy for the people of Louisiana and working men and women across the county’ and specifically his work to address the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Does Mary Landrieu disagree with Nagin? Why won’t Landrieu stand up and let Louisianians know why she won’t endorse Obama?”

THE DEAD PELICAN was still awaiting comment from the Landrieu camp at the time of this writing...
