The Louisiana Young Republican Federation thanks Governor Jindal and the Young Republican members of the Louisiana Legislature who stood tall and publicly opposed raising the income taxes of working families in Louisiana. Governor Bobby Jindal has promised to veto, and several dozen members of the Louisiana House of Representatives have publicly opposed, Senate Bill 335 by Sen. Lydia Jackson, D-Shreveport, that would prevent Louisiana families from fully deducting charitable gifts, mortgage interest and certain medical costs off their Louisiana income tax burden.“On behalf of Young Republicans across Louisiana, I would like to thank YR Governor Jindal, and YR Legislators Cameron Henry, Kirk Talbot, John Schroder, Joe Lopinto, John LaBruzzo and Jonathan Perry, for defending tax-paying citizens from not fully benefiting from paying their mortgages, donating to charities and paying their families’ medical bills,” stated Audra Shay, Chairman of the Louisiana Young Republican Federation.
The LYRF further thanks State Representatives Cameron Henry and Jonathan Perry for voting against House Concurrent Resolution 94 by Rep. Michael Jackson, I-Baton Rouge, as Members of the House Ways & Means Committee. HCR 94 would have increased the income tax burden by lowering income tax brackets to their "Stelly" levels.
“We are proud of these YR Legislators that helped stop a bill that would raise the taxes of working citizens as they try to struggle through the current economic hard times,” said Mike Bayham, President of Greater New Orleans Republicans, a local YR organization associated with the LYRF.
The Louisiana Young Republican Federation, Inc. (LYRF) encourages Republicans, ages 18 to 40, to become involved in politics, identify future Republican political leaders and create a volunteer base for local, statewide and national elections.
