Stormy: The Democrats' Only Hope?

In the 2010 campaign for U.S. Senate, so far no serious candidates have surfaced to challenge U.S. Senator David Vitter.

Porn Star and Baton Rouge native Stormy Daniels claims to be considering a run as an "independent."

But a the presence of Brian Welsh at Daniels's "listening tour" event is raising questions about possible connections to the Democratic party. The Baton Rouge Business Report has noted that Welsh was the "moderator" of the event. Welsh told the Business Report that “David Vitter, through his indiscretions and moral failings, has allowed the opportunity to show that somebody who is actually sincere and has the honesty, integrity and strength of character (Stormy?) to run for office can do so,” he says.

The Times-Picayune caught Democratic operative Brian Welsh posing with the adult entertainer Stormy Daniels at Serio’s Po Boy’s on Wednesday. In the photo, Welsh is seen wearing a brown shirt and standing to Stormy's left. The photo appears both on the Times Picayune Website and the "Draft Stormy" website. The media has attempted to paint Ms. Daniels as an “independent” candidate but Welsh's presence at the listening tour has insiders wondering: is Stormy's campaign in some way connected to the Democratic party?

Welsh, a former spokesperson for the Democrats LA Victory ‘08 effort and Walter Boasso’s campaign for Governor in ’07, is not identified in the photo but given this web video from last year's Senate campaign there is little doubt that is him.

With the list of Democrats publicly not interested in the race growing, political insiders are beginning to wonder if Ms. Daniels is the Democrats only option.
