(Lafayette, LA) – Dr. Charles W. Boustany, Jr., formally announced that he will seek the United States Senate seat being vacated by Senator David Vitter (R-Metairie) in 2016. Boustany was joined by his family and supporters at a formal announcement event at his family home in Lafayette.

In his speech, Boustany outlined his record as a successful small business owner and cardiovascular surgeon, as well as his successful tenure in the United States House of Representatives representing South Louisiana.

Boustany said: “In 2016, Louisiana will elect a new United States Senator. We deserve a Senator with a proven record of conservative leadership. We deserve a Senator who will support American small businesses against the overreach of Washington. We deserve a Senator who will take on big challenges like fixing our broken healthcare system, reforming outdated welfare programs, and rewriting our burdensome tax code. I am confident I will be that Senator for Louisiana.

“Over the coming months, I look forward to travelling around the state outlining how I believe Louisiana can lead the effort to drive this nation forward. I look forward to the hard work ahead earning your respect, your trust, and your vote.”
