Fleming Responds to President’s Last SOTU

“According to the President’s speech the next 11 months of his time in office will be more of the same - including sidestepping Congress to push through his own policies”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Congressman John Fleming, M.D. released the following statement in response to the President’s final State of the Union address:

“Over the course of the last seven years, we’ve heard the President offer many proposals for the ills that plague us and yet, seven years later we’re still waiting for results. His only “accomplishments” include sidestepping Congress to enact policies to delay Obamacare, grant executive amnesty, take away work requirements for welfare, and undermine the 2nd Amendment. Instead of uniting America he has divided us with his partisan agenda. And instead of making America feel safer in light of increased terrorist threats, people feel increasingly less safe.

“Sadly, according to the President’s own speech, the last 11 months of his time in office will be more of the same, with the addition of an attempt to close Guantanamo Bay and reopen diplomatic communication with Cuba. For the sake of our country I hope that the President does not make good on his word and instead listens to the American people and work with Congress on solutions. Instead of more partisanship, we need to reform the broken health care system, allow Americans to freely exercise their Constitutional rights, and join the fight against ISIS and radical Islamic terrorism to make our country feel safe again.”

Dr. John Fleming is Chairman of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water, Power and Oceans and is a member of the House Armed Services Committee. He is a physician and small business owner and represents the 4th Congressional District of Louisiana.
